A Moment of a Self Portrait
This game is mature and has Trigger Warnings. Play at your own Risk.
Description:
Essentially this game is an OCD simulator, with the intention of allowing people who do not have it to better understand the emotional gripes people with this illness have to deal with. This game is not for the faint-hearted, and comes with a big fat trigger warning. However, players who persevere will surely walk away with a (hopefully) meaningful experience.
A Letter to Players and Trigger Warnings:
I made this OCD simulator so that people who do not have it will be better able to understand the emotional gripes people with this illness have to deal with. I aimed at conveying a range of emotions with this game, namely apprehension and fear, to acceptance with sprinklings of joy mixed in here and there. This is largely the emotions someone with OCD will feel. If they give into their compulsions, they will be met with apprehension and fear, maybe even terror. However, if they learn to accept themselves and deal with their condition constructively, they will see that it can be used to bring emotions of acceptance and joy. The absurd nature of OCD will also bring about the latter emotions when one is able to contextualize them, and as a result, gain humility as they learn to laugh at themselves. As someone who has OCD and was making this game to show someone what a hypothetical day would look like with my condition. I tried to make it as accurate as possible, to the point where I literally had to take a break from making it as I was feeling too dissociated and uncomfortable from playing it. Thus, I’m going to give this game a big fat red
TRIGGER WARNING
if you are sensitive to these kinds of things. It was emotionally hard to make, but that just makes it more meaningful if you can persevere. Most people were able to play it. Even someone with severe ADHD was able to play it. So, most people should be ok. But again, not everyone is the same, and it might set someone off. Regardless, play it at your own risk. And make sure you have a hot beverage of your choice with you for comfort sakes. Also, I suggest playing this game with a mouse.
I hope you are able to get something meaningful out of the experience!
Happy meaningful playing!
